Conventional license management technologies like hardware dongles are not suitable for grid- and cloudcomputing environments, making it hard for ISVs to offer licenses for these environments. GenLM, a new license management technology of the Fraunhofer ITWM, overcomes these difficulties by allowing "mobile" licenses.
An enduser can buy licenses for specific jobs on-demand. The license is valid for a given set of input data. The license file and the input data can be copied to any compute resource. During job startup, the ISV's software checks the validity of the license file. If the license is valid for the input data, the job can be computed.
The GenLM technology is available for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems and can be incorporated into any ISV software.
